Youth Opportunities - County

 

Most Outstanding 4-Her (Senior and Junior) – For those who have exhibited outstanding merit in and out of the 4-H program.  Junior:  9-13 year olds must submit a one page, double-spaced essay on “Why I want to be Most Outstanding 4-Her”.  Senior:  14 and older must submit a 2 page essay on the same topic.  Both must complete the Ohio Achievement Form.  Application Form must be requested in January.

 

Junior Leader – A group of Jefferson County 4-H members, 14 and older, who get together to plan 4-H programs and have fun as a group.

 

Camp Counselor – Camp is held at Camp Piedmont.  24 hours of training are planned to prepare members for counseling at 4-H camp.  4-Hers must let the Extension office know they are interested in January.

 

4-H Committee Scholarships – Your interest in applying for the scholarships must be indicated on the front of the Ohio Achievement Form or by filling out the interest checklist sent in the newsletter.  The applications are then mailed.  The Ohio Achievement Form is required along with the application.

 

4-H Conservation Camp – A six day camp held at Camp Ohio, Utica.  Primarily designed for youth interested in Environmental Sciences.

 

4-H Leadership Camp – A six-day camp held at Camp Ohio.  This program focuses on helping youth develop leadership by actually planning, conducting and evaluating major parts of the camp program.

 

Carving New Ideas Workshop – This program is conducted by Ohio State’s Collegiate 4-H Club at Camp Ohio and emphasizes recreational leadership skills and fun activities.

 

Ohio Forestry Camp – The six-day camp is held at FFA Camp Muskingum, Leesville Lake, Carroll County.  The program focuses on tree identification, silviculture, ecology, and forest products.

 

Buckeye Leadership Workshop – 16 and 0lder – Learn recreational leadership skills at this outstanding event held in March at Recreation Unlimited Camp in Delaware, Ohio.

 

4-H Sea Camp – Experience marine biology first-hand at Kelleys Island 4-H Camp on Lake Erie.  Fishing, ecology, marine navigation, snorkeling, scuba diving, sailing and more.

 

Jefferson County Junior Fair Board -  Ages 14 and older.  Those interested in serving on this board should indicate that interested on the checklist sent in the newsletter or on the Ohio Achievement Form.  Your name will then be given to the Jr. Fair Coordinator who will then contact you.
