  2. Food Preservation Office Hours

    The OSU Extension Food Preservation Team is having live “Office Hours” events to be held bi-weekly through the end of July. As we expect home food preservation to be a big topic this year, we really want to get people started off right, even if we can’t meet them face-to-face.

    Each of these Tuesday sessions will be from 4:00-5:00pm. Sessions will start with a short presentation and the remainder of time will be for open Q&A. The presentations will be recorded and posted for those who could not attend live.

  3. Diagnostic Clinics Re-open on Part-Time Basis

    Beginning Wednesday, April 15, the OSU C. Wayne Ellett Plant & Pest Diagnostic Clinic, located in Reynoldsburg, will reopen on a part-time basis.  The Clinic will be accepting plant samples for disease diagnosis via package deliver only (USPS, UPS, etc.). No face-to-face drop off of samples can be accepted at this time.

  4. The OSU Farm Office is Open

    Starting Monday April 6th, the OSU Farm Office Team of Peggy Hall, Dianne Shoemaker, Ben Brown, David Marrison and Barry Ward will be holding weekly live office hours from 8:00-9:30 pm EST to provide short updates on emerging topics and to help answer questions. Each evening will start off with a quick 10-15-minute summary of select farm management topics from our experts and then we will open it up for questions and answers from attendees on other topics of interest. Each farm session is limited to 500 people.

  5. OSU Extension Announces Agriculture and Natural Resources Madness: A Tournament of Education

    Columbus, Ohio—Did your usual conference get canceled? Looking to fill the void of the big basketball tournament? Ohio State University Extension is here to help with a new virtual education program for the agricultural community.

    “Agriculture and Natural Resources Madness: A Tournament of Education” will include 64 educational events broken into daily brackets. Each day, a virtual educational session will be held at 9 a.m., noon, and 3 p.m. The educational tournament is free of charge and will likely continue until mid-May.

  6. OSU Extension offices throughout Ohio will implement teleworking options for staff amid current coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) outbreak concerns

    Columbus, OHIO – Governor DeWine recently issued a state of emergency for the state of Ohio, and along with the Ohio Department of Health, has implemented a variety of strategies to reduce the spread of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). To do our part in reducing risk to Ohio State University Extension employees or clientele, we have implemented a teleworking plan effective immediately, and all OSU Extension offices will be closed to the public until further notice.

  7. 2020 Beginning Beekeepers Course Update

    Join the Jefferson County Beekeepers Association and Ohio State University Extension to learn more about the basics of beekeeping! Joe Kovaleski, EAS Master Beekeeper, co-owner of Buena Vista Honey Farms, and long-time beekeeper will cover all you need to know about starting a hive - no prior experience required.

    ***Due to COVID-19, initial sessions of the Beginning Beekeepers Course for 2020 will be moved to a webinar format. A link to the webinar will be distributed once registrations have been received.

  8. Pesticide & Fertilizer Updates 3/17/2020

    PRIVATE APPLICATORS: All remaining private recertification classes are postponed until further notice. We will update you as news is presented from the Ohio Department of Agriculture (ODA). ODA public facilities are closed until April 11.

  9. Coronavirus & March Events Update 3/12/2020

    As you may be aware, The Ohio State University has announced the suspension of face-to-face instruction of lectures, discussion sections, seminars, and other similar classroom settings, and the move to virtual instruction effective immediately and through at least Monday, March 30. Also, events deemed nonessential between now and April 20 are subject to review, to evaluate whether they should continue in person.

  10. Paraquat Training Now Required

    As of November 14, 2019, registrants of paraquat containing products (Gramoxone, Firestorm, Helmquat, Parazone and others) were required to have newly labeled products on the market.  Paraquat training is now mandated by the US EPA for all certified applicators who intend to load, apply, mix or handle paraquat.  Only licensed pesticide applicators can legally apply paraquat products and direct supervision is no longer permitted.  Training is required every three years and may be completed online here...
