  1. Farm Bill Enrollment Deadline Approaching

    If you are needing to enroll in Farm Bill programs this year, make sure to visit FSA BEFORE March 15th. February is a great month to visit your FSA office and avoid potential scheduling issues or wait periods as we get closer to the deadline.     Ohio State University (OSU) Extension, the outreach arm of the College of Food, Agricultural and Environmental Sciences (CFAES) will host the 7th Annual East Ohio Women in Agriculture Conference.  This year’s conference convenes on Thursday, March 19 from 9:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.

    Seldom do we talk about forage shortages and above normal precipitation in the same breath. Regardless, that’s where we find ourselves now throughout Ohio and much of the Midwest. Over the past year abundant rainfall has allowed us to grow lots of forage. Unfortunately, the weather has seldom allowed us to harvest it as high quality feed.

  7. Farm Pesticide Disposal Collection in Wayne County

    The Ohio Department of Agriculture will be sponsoring a collection for farmers wishing to dispose of unwanted pesticides on September 24 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Kidron Livestock Auction (behind the barns), 4885 Kidron Rd., Apple Creek, Ohio 44606. 

    The pesticide collection and disposal service are free of charge, but only farm chemicals will be accepted.  Paint, antifreeze, solvents, and household or non-farm pesticides will not be accepted.

  9. Join the OSU Extension Jefferson & Harrison Master Gardener Volunteers!

    The Ohio State University Extension offices in Jefferson and Harrison Counties are currently accepting new applications for the 2019 Master Gardener Volunteer training program. Master Gardener Volunteers in Ohio contributed over 180,000 hours of service each year and offer assistance with home horticultural questions, pest identification, school programs, demonstrations, research, and continuing education programs.
