Producers interested in improving herd genetics while reducing breeding costs are invited to attend the Beef & Dairy Artificial Insemination Workshop, a two-part educational program hosted by Ohio State University Extension in partnership with ABS and SB Nemo Farm.

The workshop will be held on Wednesday, October 7 and Wednesday, October 14, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at SB Nemo Farm, 945 County Road 20, Dillonvale, Ohio.

Artificial insemination (AI) continues to be an important management tool for both beef and dairy producers. The workshop is designed to provide participants with a practical understanding of reproductive management and the role AI can play in improving herd genetics and overall profitability.

Over two evening sessions, attendees will learn the benefits and practical considerations of implementing AI in beef and dairy operations. Topics will include estrus synchronization, selecting sires using Expected Progeny Differences (EPDs), reproductive management strategies, and comparing the costs and benefits of artificial insemination versus maintaining a herd bull. Whether producers are considering AI for the first time or are looking to refine an existing breeding program, the workshop will provide research-based information to support informed decision making.

The featured guest speaker will be Kenny Wells, Beef Genetic Program Development Lead for ABS Global. Wells leads initiatives ranging from marketing to strategic use of Sexcel sexed semen and brings extensive experience in beef cattle reproductive management and genetics. A native of southeastern Ohio, Wells previously served as the Agricultural Research Station Farm Manager for The Ohio State University and as an Extension Beef Academy Specialist at Michigan State University. He holds a master's degree from Washington State University and a bachelor's degree from The Ohio State University.

There is no cost to attend, but pre-registration is required. Pizza and drinks will be provided.
